What A Birthday Gift!

Ten-year old Alex Davis of Normandale Elementary French Immersion School
in Edina, Minn. has a different way of celebrating his birthday.

Alex has been volunteering since he was eight years old, when he asked his friends to bring baby wipes and diapers to his birthday party so that they could be donated to the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.

He also:

= helped raise money to purchase mosquito nets for families in Africa to help fight malaria;

= spent his 10th birthday packaging meals to distribute to starving children worldwide;

= raised funds to purchase school supplies and clothing for needy children in
Romania; and

= recently began designing and making beaded earrings, which he sells to raise money for Romania: Hope and Friendship.

Alex's efforts won $5000 from Kemps, a leading dairy company in the Midwest, in its first-ever Nickels for Schools "Extraordinary Student" search in schools throughout the Midwest.
