Former Conjoined Twins Celebrate Birthday

NEW YORK -- A Bronx hospital is planning a 5th birthday party for Clarence and Carl Aguirre: two formerly conjoined twins who were successfully separated.

Carl and Clarence were born joined at the top of their heads. They came to the United States from the Philippines in September 2003 for surgery to separate them.

Doctors at Montefiore Medical Center performed a series of operations over about 10 months. Today they say the boys healthy, active and getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall.

One of their doctors said Clarence is "a ham," while Carl is more shy - two distinctly individual personalities.
